HOLE IN ONE!

one day project, this is my final drawing for the one day brief. had a wonderful slightly stressful, but good day of graphic tablet jollification! going for a lino cut kind of effect, i used the hole and played on a simple idea of the abyss.

spruce goose

given my blog a bit of a tidy up and added more links to the side. it needed to be done really!

breathe easy

After finnishing our marvelous map animation i figured i should be getting my other running project.... well underway. So i have spent much time in the production lab over this past week, slaving over after effects. Its cold in there and there is rarely someone to talk to, but its starting to feel worth it.

My project is nothing more than a visual interpretation of a cyborgs/androids insides, nothing complex to understand and nothing too meaningful. I just wanted to make something technical and visual, while also wanting something which would also give me a lot more experience using after effects, which i have begun to adore. The final animation is intended to be projected onto an actual body, to put it into some context.

the aesthetic is supposed to be very geometric and colourful, drawing ideas from some bjork videos (gondry) and old school sci-fi something like red dwarf. I like using washed out colour as to make it quite pastel like. Heres a collection of videos showing the progress of work. First up is this terrible attempt, which looks awful, luckily enough i gave up on this sooner rather than later.

had a chat with rolf, who gave me a bit of help with vector layers in after effects. i came to realise, it would be much easier to stick to specific repeated shapes, giving the video a little more consitancy. this is just a quick clip, of the addative effect i am going to use:

i came to decide to use only squares on an angle as if diamonds, and triangles, which are half of the diamonds. with a lot of carefully meticulous planning and positioning using gridded paper i began to assemble the lungs, here is the final animation of the lungs:

after the lungs were completed i started on the heart, veins and arteries. this is as far as i have got with this:

this is all footage repeated and layer, my aim is to make things span out from each other, i will update with my progress as more happens.

Mr mayors finnished map

This week was really good!

Our animation is finished and i have to say it is marvelous, "Mr mayors magic map" will screen tomorrow for the first time for all to see.

Truth be told.

Today was actually rather nice, Alice pulled me out of a cesspit and we had a lovely day of Halloween preparation, i didn't think it possible for me to do anything today, especially after my overdose on social lubricant last night.

When not with Alice I spent a lot of time sitting and reading through blogs. I'm feeling me posting regular on here has to become a permanent thing. I'm Trying to get/be inspired for my next piece of work, i don't wanna have time to stop or slow in between.

I had an interesting dream a few nights back about a piece of work i am planning to pursue, the dream was just loads of ideas and imagery about this kaleidoscope video i was planning (in the dream not before), unfortunately i dont remember the dream that well just certain specific parts, but all the same its a nice new starting point. I think this video may have sparked it, and sams appreciation of 50 pence pieces.

And finally I am really excited to see fantastic mr fox this coming week, i cant actually wait. Me and dearest Rebecca shall make our way to the cinema some time and enjoy some brilliant stop frame.

MR MAYORS MAGIC MAP - CONSTRUCTION BEGI

this project i have worked on with both Esther and George. It involves sets, puppets and maps, combining each of our efforts from the summer project to create a marvelous animation. The story itself i wont say much about, other than a summary given by a tutor Antony Head:

"so its basically about a magic map"

here are some images of us making the sets for the animation:

Esther overjoyed by the humble mayors mansion.

The Mayors magic map.

George, me and the Mayors home.

Building the robbers sewer.

More to come hopefully very soon.

10 MAPS FOR 10 MARAUDERS

Summer has arrived and with it the joys of scunthorpe. My most treasured place....

There's not much to do and no money to do it with.

...So using this precious time wisely i decided to make my own version of Harry Potters marauders map. Pointless you say? sad? does this boy have nothing else to do? all very true and valid!

To attempt to justify my efforts, i have used this creation as an excuse to improve my use of illustrator, and when the second part of the plan kicks into action i will hopefully be able to use flash competently rather than my current abilities = 0.

here is to final 10 marauding maps i made. Not as perfected as i would have liked but i'm pleased none the less.

The maps fold out and contain 28 pages inside. The drawings are made made using illustrator apart from the front and first page, which were hand drawn. The text was added in photoshop. I would have liked to have used indesign to collate the images together, but as it has decided to cease working i had to use photoshop.

I printed it out and photocopied it. Cut all the photocopies out with a sharp knife and folded them, more taxing than i realised. To finish i slapped a load of raw linseed oil to make the paper translucent and to give it a look of parchment.

My next intention is to take the map and make it interactive in flash, this isn't gonna happen any time soon as i am sick of looking at it.

Research brief from ages ago

The final outcome of a short research brief back from around September. The concept is based on the structure of crystal formations. The final thing was created digitally and then screen printed to a roll of paper.

2009

2009 had a pretty slow start which escalated to madness as assessment approached (last Wednesday) i think my room took the worst of it, considering this.........was caused the night before handin.

I wasn't entirely pleased with my work, infact i know i could have done a lot better, so im taking the new year as an even further excuse to make more effort!

Will post work from assessment as and when i have time, though its all at uni being assessed right now.
